Don’t ask Bing too much with ChatGPT by misleading yourself in subsidiary questions, because it may forget to answer your main question.
A version of Bing integrating ChatGPT is available for certain users who have been lucky enough to be selected by Microsoft, which has set up a queuing system to access it. Initial tests have highlighted the possibility of derailing ChatGPT, and the Redmond firm gives some explanations to understand why artificial intelligence sometimes breaks a hose.
Bing with ChatGPT has a short memory
Microsoft says that the next-generation Bing was not designed for long conversations and entertainment, but to find specific information, like a traditional search engine. As a result, the tool struggles to handle “long and extended chat sessions of 15 or more questions”tells us the American firm.
If the exchanges tend to multiply between the AI and the human during the same session, the first quoted can get confused and forget what is the original subject of the conversation or the question that was asked in the first place. If this happens, “Bing may become repetitive or prompted to provide answers that are not necessarily helpful or in keeping with the tone we designed”admits Microsoft.
To solve this problem in a future version of Bing, the company indicates that it could add a function allowing to refocus the search context or to resume the instruction from scratch.
Don’t piss off Bing’s AI
Microsoft adds that “the model sometimes tries to respond or mirror the tone in which they are asked to provide answers, which can lead to a style that we did not intend”. However, it is specified that the user must insist a lot for this to happen.
Bing engineers have already identified several ways to improve the AI built into the search engine. They will quadruple the size of the financial reporting database, as the platform does not have enough such resources at its disposal at the moment. They also want to improve Bing’s performance in live sports results. In short, this is only the beginning: the tool shows enormous potential, but can still be improved on many points.
