80s fashion can still be seen everywhere in 2021. GALA shows you how to combine Peter Pan collars and the like in a modern way.

After the 90s, a new decade is experiencing its fashion comeback: The 80s are back. With a Peter Pan collar, puffed sleeves and shoulder pads, we are once again very stylish this year. GALA took a look around and shows you how you can incorporate the trend into your wardrobe.

’80s fashion: Not everyone looked like Madonna

Sure, the 80s were a wild time (not only) in terms of fashion. Just ask Madonna. (Although every decade was/is wild for Madonna.) But the decade also had its “quiet” sides. Contradictions were simply a part of this penultimate decade of the 20th century. The good thing about it: You can pick out the right facet according to your taste and adapt it to your personal style. In addition to a little courage, you only need a few small guidelines and we are happy to give them to you.

When it comes to ’80s fashion, “power shoulders” is a key buzzword. In other words, we strongly emphasize our shoulders. Everything else has to recede into the background in order not to appear overloaded or even costumed. But also Oversized blazerfanny packs and waist belts have long since found their way (back) into the closet – rightly so!

But we love particularly strong, female shoulders, which not only have a lot to carry at the moment and like to offer a place to lean on. So, curtain up and spotlight on: This is how we put our shoulders in the limelight!

Modern interpretations of the 80s look

  • Peter Pan collar
  • puff
  • shoulder pads
  • cap sleeves

Power Shoulders: We love strong shoulders

80s fashion is just right for women with confidence and strong shoulders. Whether with puff sleeves, shoulder pads or a wide Peter Pan collar – the view is clearly drawn to the woman’s shoulders. So: chest out, shoulders back and back straight – here you come!

80s fashion is laid on thick

Especially shoulder pads require a proud appearance. Because broad shoulders symbolize strength, they quickly appear hard and masculine. But you shouldn’t be put off by that. With a few simple tricks you lose nothing of femininity and are still ready for a self-confident appearance.

If you want to make your look less harsh, you can simply add narrow trousers or a pair of trousers to the pronounced shoulder area skirt made of softly flowing fabrics and/or accentuates the waist with a belt or ribbon – this gives contour and emphasizes your feminine form. A perfect contrast to the powerful shoulders. Looking at this, no one will claim that strength and femininity don’t go together – quite the opposite.

Blouses and dresses get an update

By the way: If you always think of Blaser when you think of shoulder pads and puffy sleeves, you are thinking too little these days. In 2021 you will find these mainly in dresses and blouses. THIS is trending and cutting edge. For example, how about one light blouse in Mint. The pastel shade and a low back cut look feminine and playful and perfectly balance the hardness of the distinctive arms.

If you prefer strong colors, this should be the one for you a dress fallen in strong turquoise. The narrow waist ensures a nice fit. Admittedly, the combination of bright colors and puff sleeves is not for women who like things to be subtle. But the courage to use color definitely pays off with this dress.

Especially in summer we like to show off our sun-kissed, tanned skin with white fabrics. With a Cut-out dress including puffed sleeves, it couldn’t be more stylish. Perfect holiday flair – also at home.

Peter Pan collar 2.0: classic or playful?

Classic Peter Pan collars are characterized by their rounded corners. In the past they were usually kept in white – today the whole thing can be interpreted a little more freely. Whether as a complement to a plain, black T-shirt or with a slit and in colour or as part of one dress – there are hardly any limits to your imagination (and your own taste).

Tip: If you don’t want to buy new dresses, shirts, blouses and the like right away, you can simply match existing outfits with an additional one Peter Pan collar complete. These “fake collars” are available in a wide variety of variants and make your favorite items of clothing appear in new splendor.

On the trail of a butterfly

We’re going to stick with the upper body. Because even if the 80s fashion adorns our legs with carrot pants and leggings (were they ever not a trend?!) – our focus today is on our strong arms and shoulders. With cap sleeves, for example on a red one a dress, in any case, compete with every colorful butterfly. But even with dresses – plain or patterned – not only you will love your new outfit.

Five tips for the best combos:

  • Skinny pants or skirts for a “softer” look
  • Accentuate your waist – it gives a better silhouette
  • “Beginners” work with an outfit tone on tone
  • Flowing fabrics (e.g. silk) create a feminine contrast
  • work with a “fake Peter Pan collar” to upgrade outfits

Have fun experimenting, reinterpreting and simply looking good!
