You need 2G for these holiday offers from now on – what that means in concrete terms

Those who have not been vaccinated and those who have not recovered currently find it just as easy as those who have been vaccinated and who have recovered to go on vacation. Instead of proof of vaccination and recovery, a rapid test or a PCR test is sufficient in many cases. This has cost money since October 11th, but the restrictions are minimal. The first travel providers are now pulling harder registers.

2G is currently particularly noticeable when it comes to group trips. The restriction excludes those who have not recovered or who have not been vaccinated. As travel experts explain, 2G will primarily prevail in group, sport, adventure and round trips.

But the concept is also lucrative for all-inclusive hotels. On the one hand, the entire travel program, including guided tours, leisure activities and catering, can be carried out without restriction. On the other hand, 2G ensures a feeling of security for those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered. The worry of a possible trip cancellation is minimized.

2G already applies here – unvaccinated people need to know that

Package tour giant Alltours is implementing the 2G principle for its Allsun hotels from November 1st. That goes from the official homepager. Anyone who wants to stay in the Allsun Hotels must either be fully vaccinated or have recovered. Children between the ages of two and 17 must present a negative PCR or rapid test.

“One day after arrival, a second and free antigen test will be carried out at the hotel,” writes the company. 2G does not apply to other hotels of the provider’s holiday offers. Unvaccinated and non-convalescents are accommodated in other hotels in the chain and are not completely excluded.

The popular study tour operator Studiosus also relies on 2G. Many sights, restaurants and hotels in many countries only accept unvaccinated guests under strict conditions. “The vacation is then no longer fun. That’s why 2G is available for selected travel packages,” says customer service.

From November 1st, DER Touristik will also allow selected group tours and small group tours only for vaccinated and convalescent persons (2G model). However, the company makes alternative offers to those who have not been vaccinated and those who have not recovered, as a travel agency calls it. “We deliberately do not want to exclude other guests and offer different variants,” explains product manager Sven Schikarsky in an interview with industry services.

Gebeco specializes in round trips and is introducing the 2G rule for selected departures from January 1st. Since there are different regulations in the individual countries, it is more and more difficult to transport unvaccinated people and maintain them on site. Many popular holiday countries have tightened the entry requirements. There is still a vacation offer for those who have not been vaccinated and those who have not been genetically diagnosed. However, it is limited to holiday destinations where entry without vaccination or convalescence status is possible without any problems.

In the foreseeable future, active, sports and adventure trips will largely only be possible with 2G, according to the ASI specialist. If the vacation trip takes place with a small group, 2G is a viable solution. The provider wants to use 2G for selected travel offers from December 1st.

Costa Rica excludes recovered and unvaccinated people from January 1st

From January 1, 2022, travelers who want to visit Costa Rica must be vaccinated. Recovered and unvaccinated people are not allowed to enter. However, the measure is to be applied from December 1st.

The responsible ministries have decided that during the transition phase, hotels and flight providers can decide for themselves whether they will accept people who have not been vaccinated and those who have recovered. If this is not the case, 1G applies – i.e. access only for vaccinated people.

Open Thailand and USA – these tough restrictions apply

Thailand and the USA are among the most popular long-haul travel destinations for Germans. From November 1st, holidaymakers for Thailand need a digital entry passport, the holidaymaker received via this page. Vaccinated and convalescent persons need their proof, unvaccinated persons a PCR test (maximum 72 hours before departure).

All holidaymakers must take a PCR test on landing. Children under the age of 12 must travel with their fully vaccinated parents and are exempt from the PCR obligation. While travelers wait for the result, they have to stay in a special quarantine hotel. The addresses of possible accommodations are published by Thai embassy in Berlin. Vaccinated and convalescent patients can be asked to do a rapid antigen test at any time.

Unvaccinated persons must also carry out two further PCR tests on site from November 1st after entry. All holidaymakers must also install a warning and tracking app on their smartphone. At the same time, it’s important to get private overseas health insurance that will cover at least $ 50,000 in the event of damage.

From November 8, 2021, vaccinated persons can enter without major restrictions. Vaccines from Biontech / Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, Sinopharm and Sinovac – and all cross-vaccinations are accepted. A PCR test must also be presented upon entry.
