The organization that evaluates the sensitive content of games in the United States, the ESRB, has looked into the case of GoW Ragnarok, the next big exclusive from PlayStation Studios to be released on PS4 and PS5 in a short month. And believe us or not, but it seems that there will be violence.

We hope your stomach was well hung by reading the title of this news, but yes we assure you, God of War Ragnarok will be violent. And at the risk of making you dive back into your vomit bucket, we take the liberty of specifying that swear words will even be spoken there… More seriously, the ESRB has released its report on the production of Santa Monica Studios and there should be no worries: Kratos will remain Kratos.

The noose is tightening for Kratos’ second epic in Norse mythology in God of War Ragnarok, as there is just over a month left before the release of the big PlayStation exclusive for this end of year 2022 .

Blood and dismemberments

It was already a party at this level in the first game, with the big ax blows splitting the opponents in half and we obviously hope that GoW Ragnarok will ensure the hit side “executions”. The 2018 ones were very good, but a bit repetitive due to the limited number of different enemy types. According to Santa Monica Studios, it should be quite different in this sequel with a lot of work on the bestiary. While waiting to be able to judge this on paper on November 9, here is the description from the ESRB:

It is an action-adventure game in which players help Kratos and his son on a dangerous quest. Players explore various kingdoms and engage in frantic hand-to-hand combat against human-looking raiders and fantastical creatures (centaurs, trolls, dragons, etc.). Players use axes and chained blades to battle their enemies, often resulting in blood spatter and dismemberment effects. Players can perform finishing attacks that represent close impales using bladed weapons and hand weapons; repeated blows of an ax to a creature’s neck result in its decapitation. The words “f**k” and “sh*t” are heard in the game.

God of War 2018, a wiser game than its elders

Oh certainly there are many dismemberments and some tense moments in God of War Ragnarok, but we feel that the daron of War is no longer in such a mad rage as in Greece. The first God of War trilogy and especially GoW3 are interspersed with particularly graphic murders, bordering on uncomfortable for the most sensitive souls. With his rebootthe series changed its tone to something more laid back in order to delve deeper into the psychology of its main character. It’s another style, of course, but it is clear that the new “Kratos” is much more interesting than the PS2 / PS3 games.

Tom Henderson’s Insider Gaming site reveals how long it will (roughly) take you to complete God of War Ragnarok with all of its side quests, as well as how long all of the game’s cutscenes take and an estimated lifespan Of the history.
