You should protect your vagina from these 5 things in summer

Heat and sweat not only affect our skin – but also the vagina. So that your genital area is protected even in summer, there are a few things you should consider.

In the summer months, our vagina needs a lot of attention – because the vaginal flora is sensitive to various stimuli like sand and sweat. So that diseases such as vaginal inflammation ("vaginitis") do not stand a chance, we should pay attention to a few things.

1. Wet bikini bottoms

Of course, cooling off on hot summer days is just the thing. But: Even if it feels pleasantly cool on the skin at first, we should definitely take off our wet bikini bottoms after bathing. Because bacteria and fungi love moisture and multiply more easily in it. In addition, moisture can change the protective, slightly acidic pH of the vaginal flora – which also makes it easier for pathogens to colonize.

2. Not changed tampons

Without tampons, some women would probably not dare to go to the swimming pool during the period. But that doesn't mean that you should always walk around with the same tampon for hours on the beach! Because This not only soaks up blood, but also with the (usually quite germ-infested) water. Therefore, the tampon should be changed promptly after swimming.

3. Clothing too tight

In general, it is usually more pleasant in summer to wear airy clothes instead of particularly tight ones. The vagina also benefits: Loose and light clothing ensures good air circulation and prevents heat from building up in the genital area. This in turn could lead to increased moisture, which – as already described – is the ideal breeding ground for germs.

4. Legs crossed

Women who sit a lot professionally often do not notice how long they have crossed their legs each day. This can have a negative effect on blood circulation and cause heat build-up in the intimate area in summer, which we should avoid due to bacteria.

5. Too much care

Of course, the idea is obvious to spend a lot of time caring for the intimate area at high temperatures. But this is unnecessary: The vagina has an amazing self-cleaning power by nature. Special rinses or vaginal douches are unnecessary. Normal hygiene with a gentle washing lotion is sufficient to keep the vaginal flora in balance.
