Recent rumors suggest that Apple is planning to launch an iPad mini 7 with an OLED display. However, fans of the small tablet will have to be patient since its release is not expected before the year 2026.
According to sources close to Apple’s supply chain, Samsung has already started developing samples of 8-inch OLED displays for the Apple brand, indicating that the iPad mini 7 will likely remain the same size screen of 8.3 inches than its predecessor. However, mass production of these screens is only expected to begin in the second half of 2025, which would give Apple enough time to prepare for the launch of its tablet.
An OLED screen for the iPad mini? Yes, but not before 2026
Last week, the Cupertino company presented with great fanfare its first iPad Pad Pro M4 equipped with an OLED screen. If the repairability of the device still remains a problem, it is clear that the integration of two OLED panels allows the iPad Pro to enjoy a much better display than in the past. This is also the reason why Apple would like to take inspiration from it with its entry-level tablet: the iPad mini.
Although Apple wants to move to an OLED display for its iPad mini 7, it is unlikely that it will be the Tandem OLED technology used on Apple’s freshly unveiled 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro. This technology being more expensive to produce than mini-LED, Apple should opt for a more economical solution in order to maintain an affordable selling price for its iPad mini.
As a reminder, last October, rumors already suggested that OLED could appear on the iPad mini and iPad Air from 2026.
Apple still seeks to limit costs
If the seventh generation iPad mini is so desired (the iPad mini 6 having been released in September 2021), it is for the simple and good answer that Apple would like to offer an OLED tablet at the most competitive price possible. According to our colleagues at Wccftech, analyst Ross Young, whose credibility is no longer in doubt, has already been surprised by the starting price of 1,219 euros ($999) of the 11-inch iPad Pro. In fact, he considered that the change in screen technology would inevitably lead to a 50% increase in the selling price.
Adopting a more economical OLED could allow Apple to maintain an attractive price for the iPad mini 7, while still taking advantage of the advantages of this screen technology. That being said, and as you will have understood, we will have to wait a little before being able to get our hands on the future iteration of the small tablet made in Apple, this obviously not being planned before the next two years…

- A magnificent screen
- Modern design and remarkable manufacturing
- Firepower with the A15 Bionic
With this new iPad mini, Apple finally succeeds in differentiating its small device from the rest of its range of tablets.
More than just a “small iPad”, the manufacturer now offers a high-performance device for users who are not particularly interested in video and who primarily wish to consult the Web, take notes or read books and magazines without the hassle of a device that is too wide or too heavy.
We can obviously accomplish many other tasks thanks to the A15 Bionic chip, such as drawing, editing a video project or even creating an illustration with the Apple Pencil. The iPad mini is not necessarily the best choice for professionals, who will probably prefer a larger panel, but it is fast and versatile enough thanks to its new USB-C socket to continue their work while traveling or traveling. ‘a relocation.
The iPad mini is therefore indeed a compact iPad Air, brought up to date and attractive as hell. As usual with Apple, however, this comes at a price of €559 for only a poor 64 GB of base, and we’re not even talking about the 5G configurations which inflate the bill to almost €900 for the best-equipped version.
