During its annual conference dedicated to the software innovations of its products and solutions, Google announced something new for the invocation of Google Assistant.
Ok Google is no longer necessary… under certain conditions
The first feature introduced is named “Look and Talk”. Activated, it allows you to launch a voice request to Google Assistant without having to previously pronounce the famous “Hey Google”.
At first, only one device will be compatible with this option: the Nest Hub Max connected screen. The front camera it is equipped with will detect if you are standing in front of it. If so, the user will not need to say the two magic words. Only English is supported at this time.
The conditions for taking advantage of it are therefore quite limiting, but we imagine that this is a working basis for Google, which should improve this over the years. Note that the Face Match and Voice Match options must be active for this to work. “Look and Talk”.

Google also removes “Hey Google” before some widely used basic queries. Ask the time, set an alarm, turn the lights on or off, ask for the weather… Even without standing in front of a Nest Hub Max, you can do without the Google Assistant call hook.
But again, there are serious limitations for the launch of this feature. This is only planned for release for owners of a Nest Hub Max, and only in the United States.
In any case, Google is making efforts to make conversation with Google Assistant more natural. We will therefore not benefit from it immediately, but these improvements should arrive in France in the future, undoubtedly in a better optimized and more practical form.
