you will soon be able to share your child's APL

By 2021, a new decree is to clarify the distribution of housing benefits among separated families.

A news that should delight many separated parents. The government plans to simplify the sharing of the APL for former spouses in joint custody. "It is a question of equity between beneficiaries", justifies the Ministry of Housing. For the moment, separated parents who have chosen joint custody must agree to know which parent will benefit from personalized housing assistance.

Terms to be specified

For the moment, it is impossible to know whether this measure will be favorable or restrictive to the purses of parents. "This is not about saving on housing assistance payments", says the executive. Nevertheless, the National Union of Family Associations (Unaf) believed that savings could well be made. And for good reason, there would be a risk that the terms applied would be the same as those applied to other shared family allowances. Thus, the parent who receives aid may see it decrease and the aid received by the second parent may be less than the decline experienced by the first parent. “Which would lead to a decrease in public spending”, indicates Capital.

This “very technical” text is part of the reforms of the APL, which is due to enter into force on January 1st.
