You’ll never see The Exorcist the same way again after reading this anecdote

What do “The Exorcist” and “ET the Extra-Terrestrial” have in common? A voice and not the least…

Perrette Pradier is a true legend in the world of French dubbing. Nicknamed “the popess” or “the queen” in the field, she doubled many legendary actresses during her career, a long career filled with roles that you know and which lasted from the 70s until her death in 2013.

From Faye Dunaway to Julie Andrews, including Jacqueline Bisset, Diane Keaton, Julie Christie and Jane Fonda, all have been voiced in French by Perrette Pradier who also lent his voice to animated characters such as that of Madame Médusa in The Adventures of Bernard and Bianca (1977).

But Perrette Pradierwhose real name is Perrette Chevau, also lent her voice to two particularly iconic characters in the world of cinema, namely a hated demon and a beloved extra-terrestrial: we named the demon Pazuzu who takes possession of young Regan (Linda Blair ) in The Exorcist (1973) by William Friedkin (in the second dub of 2001) and dear ET himself in ET the Extraterrestrial (1982) by Steven Spielberg (in the second dub of the film from the 2002 Special Edition ).

Here are two extracts to refresh your memory and to compare. We’ll let you listen!

Possessing more than one string to his bow, Perrette Pradier was also artistic director and supervised the dubbing of films such as Aladdin and series such as The Tudors or Ugly Betty.

AND The Extra-Terrestrial is currently available to watch again in streaming on Amazon Prime Video, the same for The Exorcist via the Warner Pass this time.
