Thousands celebrate Young Boys’ championship title on Bern’s Bundesplatz.
Bern in a yellow and black frenzy of joy: The federal city celebrates its football club BSC Young Boys, which won the Swiss football championship.
In the afternoon, hundreds of fans gathered in front of the stadium in Wankdorf for the fan march: chants rang out, jukeboxes blared, and the beer and sausage stands were bustling with activity. Thousands of fans waited excitedly for their team.
The fan march moved through the city towards Bundesplatz. More and more people joined in. A large banner with the words “Geyoungboyst” fluttered on the Nydegg Bridge.
The pun “Veryoungboyst” was born years ago to express that the Bernese football club, which was mostly unlucky at the time, had messed up another game. In the meantime, football luck has found YB. The pun has changed and expresses, with a wink, pride and joy over a victory.
This is what the «masters» say
Already the 17th championship title
Shortly after 4 p.m., the official YB “party” began with a rap by the Bern combo “Chlyklass”. A large banner with the inscription “Fuessbauschwizermeischter 2023/24” was displayed above the stage.
BSC Young Boys secured the championship title on May 20th with a win against Servette. The team received the trophy on Saturday after their Super League match against Winterthur. It is the 17th in the club’s history.
