Young lawyers: when the search for the first job turns into a headache


INVESTIGATION – Many of them dream of a first collaboration in a large Parisian firm. But the reality of the job market makes many disappointed.

Lawyer, really a royal road? For the thousands of young people who come out of the eleven French training schools each year – nearly 3,700 graduates in 2020 – and who already imagine themselves working in the firm of their dreams, the return to reality can sometimes be tough. Like Camille, 25, who was aiming for a first collaboration in civil law in Paris. “As I did not see any advertisements, I sent a lot of unsolicited applications“, she explains. A month of intense but fruitless research later, “it resulted in a change of perspective. I chose to move towards a branch that recruits more easily, construction law, even if it was not in my initial plans.“.
