A young Palestinian was killed by Israeli army fire in the West Bank, the Palestinian health ministry said on Friday (July 29th). “A 16-year-old man, Amjad Nashaat Abou Alia, died of his wounds after being fired upon by live ammunition during clashes with the Israeli army, near the village of Al-Mughayer”not far from Ramallah, the ministry said in a statement.

According to the Palestinian Authority, the young man died after being shot in the chest and declared dead after being taken to hospital. Five other protesters were reportedly injured during the rally.

Increase in violence and clashes

About four hundred Palestinians gathered in this area on Friday to protest against colonization, according to Agence France-Presse photographers on site. Clashes erupted when Israeli settlers and Palestinians began throwing stones at each other.

According to the Israeli army, “hundreds of Palestinians started a violent riot” Friday in these places. “The rioters burned tires and threw stones towards a road on which civilian vehicles pass”she explained in a press release, adding: “Israeli army and border police were deployed and responded using riot control and live ammunition. »

The incident came after two Palestinians were killed during an Israeli army nighttime operation in Nablus early Sunday, described by the army as a shootout with gunmen.

Since the end of March, at least 53 Palestinians have been killed, mostly in the occupied West Bank, including suspected militants and civilians including Palestinian-American Al-Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, who was covering an Israeli operation in Jenin.

During the same period, nineteen people – the majority of them Israeli civilians in the territory of Israel – were killed, mainly in attacks carried out by Palestinians. Three Arab Israeli attackers were also killed.
