Crypto-currencies are very popular among 18-25 year olds, many of whom invest in them.

The historic demonstrations that are shaking the country at the moment on the question of pensions are one of the signs of the concern of the French about their future. So, to prepare for it, young people save very early. And for more and more of them, this means cryptocurrency.

1 in 7 young people in crypto

FTX, Celsius, Luna… So many names that were in the news a lot last year and brought bad publicity to cryptocurrency. These scandals, some of a planetary scale as for FTX, do not however frighten the young generation.

This is according to a survey conducted by OpinionWay and 20 minutes. This reveals that 14% of 18-25 year olds in the country want to invest or have invested in crypto-currencies. Despite its very volatile side, this investment does not scare this generation. Proof of risk aversion perhaps less than in previous generations, they are 37% of the same age group to be interested in acquiring shares on the stock market.

A generation saves?

It must be said that the future seems less assured for those born around the 2000s. The retirement age could be pushed back to 64 years old while some politicians like Édouard Philippe are already talking about a new threshold at 67 years old. Coupled with unemployment among seniors (only 56% of those over 55 have a job in France), this prospect increasingly imposes the need to have a woolen sock for difficult times.

As a result, 73% of 18-25 year olds save, mostly with the Livret A (82%) and the Livret Jeune (40%). The under 35s are in absolute value those who save the most, with an average of 264 euros per month, against 244 for the population as a whole.

But if the overall figures show a diversification of investments among young people, making it possible to put the crypto risks on their portfolio into perspective, they are on the other hand still numerous to follow the advice of disreputable influencers. According to a study by the Spak platform, 38% of those under 35 listening to this sphere have been victims of a scam. And if the problem was rather there?
