After PornHub and Xvideos, it’s the turn of two other popular porn sites to be in ARCOM’s sights. Indeed, the audiovisual and digital policeman has ordered YouPorn and RedTube to block their access to minors. If nothing is done within 15 days, the regulator will take legal action to order the blocking of the two porn sites by the ISPs.
For several months now, ARCOM, the French audiovisual and digital policeman, has been waging war on pornographic sites. If the penal code already prohibits exposing minors to pornographic photos and videos, the law on domestic violence of July 30, 2020 also specifies that the publishers of X sites can no longer discharge themselves of their responsibilities by contenting themselves with just one click to whether or not to confirm the majority of a user.
In other words, porn sites need to find a reliable and effective way to verify the age of their users before entering it. In December 2021, ARCOM had already urged five X sites, among PornHub, Xvideos or Tukif, to comply with French regulations. In March 2022, the sites concerned had still not implemented effective measures to protect minors. As a result, ARCOM took legal action to request their blocking by ISPs on French territory. For the moment, we are still awaiting the last word from the court.
YouPorn and RedTube also threatened with blocking in France
However, thanks to the publication of several formal notices from ARCOM on the Official Journal this Wednesday, April 27, we have just learned that two other popular pornographic sites are threatened with blocking. It is YouPorn and RedTube, two sites which for the moment are still accessible via a simple declaration of majority. At the beginning of March, ARCOM explains that it contacted MG Freesites, the Cypriot publisher of the two X sites, to ask for clarifications on the absence of an age verification system.
If ARCOM does not go into detail, the explanations provided by MG Freesites were obviously not very convincing. Indeed, the regulator has decided to give formal notice to the publisher, who must make the necessary changes within 15 days. If nothing is done, the young controlling entity may once again take legal action to order the blocking of access to YouPorn and RedTube by French ISPs.
