One of the latest updates to WhatsApp’s beta program adds a new feature to lock chats, but also keep them hidden. It should be available to everyone in a future app update.

WhatsApp continues to improve security and privacy for its users. But there are also de facto ones on users’ devices, such as through ephemeral messages or their modification. Another new feature to come: the invisibilization of certain conversations, but also the addition of a layer of security to access them.

The outlet posted two screenshots of the feature. We then realize that it will be available in the contact or group information of the discussion in question. We can then lock it. It will no longer appear in the list of conversations “classic“, but in a dedicated tab which can be accessed by identifying oneself (via the fingerprint or the access code of the smartphone). Another advantage of the feature: the photos and videos of these discussions are not automatically saved locally on their smartphone.
At the moment, it is not known when this conversation lock will be officially available for everyone in the instant messaging application.
