The Vitale card may be replaced by a mobile application within a few months, to avoid oversights during your consultations.
Little by little, the French State tends to digitize its services to adapt to the new habits of citizens. We were talking to you a few weeks ago about France Identity, this mobile application that can replace your identity card during a check or an administrative request. This time it is the turn of the Vitale card to integrate our digital wallet.
A device in test since 2019 and which will finally become widespread
A decree, published on December 28 in the Official Journal and entered into force on 1er January 2023, specifies the “ characteristics of the means of electronic identification of policyholders and healthcare professionals “.
The Vitale card can thus be replaced by a mobile application called “apCV”. The latter has been tested since 2019 in the Alpes-Maritimes and the Rhône, before being extended to six other departments in 2022, including Bas-Rhin, Loire-Atlantique, Puy-de-Dôme, Saône-et- Loire, Sarthe and Seine-Maritime.
It is in 2023 that apCV will be able to be deployed throughout the territory. At the moment, the mobile application is not available on online stores, such as the App Store and Google Play,
A mobile application to replace the plastic card
apCV contains all ” user data, national health identifier and card usage tracking data “. The user will be able to find his latest receipts for healthcare expenses, and download them if necessary. Another feature, planned for the next few months, will allow users to delegate the use of their digital Vitale card to a trusted relative for a specified period.
Health professionals will also have the necessary tools to read the information contained in the application, using a QR Code reader or an NFC chip reader. Obviously, this last system will only work on Android devices, Apple jealously keeping control over the NFC chip of its iPhones. For the moment, no integration with a digital wallet application, such as Apple Maps or Google Wallet, seems planned.
The finalization of the project should take place during the year 2026. Users will of course be able to keep their physical Vitale card, which will not be deleted, but the beneficiaries will only be able to have one Vitale card, in each of the two formats.
