On Tuesday, December 6, 2022, the tone quickly rose between Francky Vincent and Gilles Verdez on the set of Do not touch My TV. The first came on the show to defend himself from the criticism received following his nomination for Arts and Letters. The second did not hesitate to push him against the wall, evoking his privileged relationship with Dieudonné, comedian convicted of anti-Semitism. Following this sequence, Gille Verdez announced the next day that he had received death threats. But he was able to count on the unfailing support of Géraldine Maillet, who lost his temper against Francky Vincent. “I support Gilles Verdez 10,000%. Thank you Gilles, you were extremely brave yesterday and I congratulate you. So yes, I understand your anger because the problem with Francky Vincent (…) is his ambiguity and his vagueness. When asked the question: ‘Do you condemn Dieudonné’s anti-Semitism?’ He did not answer. He said, ‘I’m not here to condemn’.”
A remark that deeply annoyed Guillaume Genton, in total disagreement with his colleague. “I understand Francky Vincent’s reaction. He said he was against anti-Semitism”, he says, before being cut by Géraldine Maillet “No, he didn’t say it”. Irritated, the columnist tries to continue: “Yes, he said it. I’m not condemning him because you’re screwing him up. Maybe it’s someone he’s close to. After all, he has the right to answer the questions he wants to answer. He comes to talk about the Legion of Honor. You are unbearable by all accounts”.
Guillaume Genton, beside himself
Furious, Guillaume Genton attacks his friends : “Nobody said he was anti-Semitic (…) You say that to make yourself look good. But there is a gap between a set that says that to show off and a media court and people at home and who watch Dieudonné sketches and who are not anti-Semitic”. Faced with these words, Géraldine Maillet cannot contain herself: “You are sick. You are mentally ill, you are a public danger”.
Gilles Verdez threatened with death
A heated debate between the two columnists. It must be said that the revelations of Gilles Verdez are cold in the back. Indeed, the one who fell out with Francky Vincent, was the victim of a real lynching on social networks. “A pretty violent campaign was waged today with thousands of messages that bother me. I had things like ‘we will desecrate your corpse’, ‘I hope your loved ones suffer the consequences of what you have said, ‘we’ll find you’, ‘don’t come to the West Indies or you’ll be dead’. I’ll give you a few that are odious but still acceptable. It was extremely violent. It makes me wonder about the state of our country. Me it disturbed me a lot. I had a lot of support but also people who make concessions to anti-Semitism, and that is not acceptable “
