Ihe communication is neat, but Emmanuel Macron’s word is still awaited. The universal national service (SNU) could well be generalized and made compulsory, according to the documents published by the weekly Politics February 27. “Nothing has been decided yet”, assures the cabinet of Sarah El Haïry, Secretary of State in charge of this sensitive file, campaign promise of candidate Macron. Behind the scenes, youth associations and organizations are busy. They mostly reject any provision that would make the service compulsory. “Commitment cannot be a constraint,” says Claire Thoury, president of the Mouvement associatif, national representative of French associations.
