Good news for app users Youtube
on android smartphones
: The video transcription function is currently being rolled out.

This handy YouTube feature is finally coming to Android!

YouTube video transcription comes to Android app

If you weren’t aware of this feature until now, video transcription allows content creators on YouTube to generate subtitle tracks automatically when a video is posted on the platform. In other words, and unlike traditional subtitles, it allows users to directly access the written (and timestamped) script of what is spoken in a video. Very practical if you are looking, for example, to find a specific passage without having to browse the video for long minutes.

But till date, this feature was only available on the desktop version of YouTube. Unless you go through a web browser, it was therefore always unavailable via the dedicated smartphone application. A situation about to change since the transcription of videos is now being tested on the YouTube application for Android devices.

In order to access it, just click on the mention “View the transcript” at the bottom of the video. Thus, you will have access, just like on the desktop version of YouTube, to the entire written script of the video. On Android, the feature offers similar options as well as an obviously mobile-friendly user interface. On the other hand, and contrary to the desktop version, it will be, initially at least, impossible to carry out a search by keyword.

Deployed as a server update, it will not be accessible to everyone at this time. It will therefore be necessary to arm yourself with a little patience before seeing the YouTube transcription feature land on all Android devices.
