On Android, YouTube allows you to find videos that might interest you based on certain criteria. The application is testing a new one and it is surprising to say the least.
With the billions of videos available on Youtube, it’s hard to find new ones that might capture your attention. We quickly find ourselves turning to the channels to which we subscribe, and we become discouraged after typing a few words in the search bar in front of the mountain of results. This is where the recommendations come into play.YouTube algorithm learns from your viewing habits to offer you other videos theoretically in your areas of interest.

The recommendations are more or less relevant, especially depending on what you have authorized or not in terms of recording your data: search history, videos viewed, etc. If you play the game, it’s rather effective. On theYouTube Android app, different custom filters are displayed at the top of the page in the form of a carousel. There we find specific keywords and other more general ones like Music Or Recently posted online. As a test, Google added three new ones and they leave us perplexed.
YouTube could offer to find videos according to an astonishing criterion
As can be seen in the screenshot below, it is search new videos by color. More precisely by choosing between red, Green And blue. Probably to recall the RGB standard so often used in digital colorimetry. Simply select one so that, on the one hand, it becomes the accent color terms selected in the carousel, on the other hand thatit displays videos whose thumbnail is mainly composed of them.
We don’t know exactly if YouTube studies anything other than the thumbnail to make its selection, and we sincerely wonder what such search criteria are for. No pun intended, they don’t tell potential viewers of a video. We prefer when Google offers features like AI dubbing or PiP mode for everyone. But maybe we’re not nuanced enough.
