YouTube Music wants you to sing along with a karaoke feature

Get ready to join karaoke more easily with YouTube Music. The app now shows, in some users, the synced lyrics of your favorite tracks when streaming on the big screen. A first step?

YouTube Music wants you to sing along as you follow line after line of the lyrics to your favorite songs. A user reported on Reddit the deployment of a novelty brought to the interface of the music streaming platform. However, for now, it’s designed only for big screen streaming (on your TV for example) via compatible devices. In this context of use, YouTube Music now displays the lyrics in large format and also synchronizes them with the song being played, karaoke style. A first for the service.

XDA Developers specifies for its part that this evolution is in the immediate future deployed only with a small sample of users. For YouTube Music, the idea is probably to test this novelty in a limited way before extending its deployment to more users and devices.

A look actually close to Apple Music…

As we can see in a photo shared via Reddit, this novelty involves the display of the lyrics on the left, prominently, while the album cover is shifted to the right. In the background, we guess that the motif of the album cover is taken up, in close-up, with a blur effect to better bring out the foreground content.

Note in passing that this is reminiscent of the similar function on Apple Music.

In any case, this is an important innovation for YouTube Music since the service does not yet offer, on smartphones or tablets, synchronization of lyrics with music, note XDA. For the moment, this function is therefore exclusive to broadcasting on the big screen. It’s unclear when this change will roll out to more devices and to all users.

Note however that it is not excluded that Google chooses to put it in parentheses, or completely forget it… which would be a pity and surprising all the same: as it stands, this function already seems rather functional and well integrated.
