After the increase in prices on Netflix and Apple TV +, to name a few, YouTube is preparing to charge us more, too, to maintain access to its YouTube Premium service.
This is what we learn from 9to5Google, which reports this week a $ 2 increase in the price of YouTube Premium across the Atlantic. In the United States, the service will therefore soon cost 13.99 dollars instead of the 11.99 dollars claimed so far.
An “unofficial” increase… for now
Still, YouTube has not yet formalized this price increase, and the latter obviously does not yet concern users who are already subscribers. Logically, however, this price revision is more than in the works. In the United States, it is already visible on the page dedicated to YouTube Premium.
This revision follows a significant increase in the price of the family subscription observed at the end of last year across the Atlantic. This would be the second price increase orchestrated on YouTube Premium since 2018. At the time, the service was still called YouTube Red, and this first price increase was seen on the occasion of the relaunch of YouTube Music.
Note that in the United States, the price of YouTube Music Premium is also about to increase to $ 10.99, instead of $ 9.99 until then.
Soon the same thing in France?
If this price inflation is confirmed in the United States (which is almost certain, if we are to believe this initial information), it is a safe bet that it will also end up materializing in Europe and France in the coming months. This will then be another unpopular move by YouTube, which recently implemented a new policy aimed at cracking down on ad blockers.
As a reminder, YouTube Premium allows you to watch videos without ads, but this subscription also unlocks audio-only playback for videos as well as downloads for offline access. The service finally allows you to watch videos in 1080p Premium (for better image quality) and adds some interesting features such as two-person viewing thanks to Google Meet, or even access to preview features.
