YouTube remains far ahead of TikTok among teenagers, contrary to popular belief

Popular belief is that TikTok has razed everything in its path by becoming the most popular social network among young people. However, a recent study by the Pew Research Center reveals that this is not the case. Despite its longevity, it is YouTube that remains in the lead in this age group, although its competitor has risen to second place in the ranking.

Since the arrival of TikTok on the social network market, comparisons with other social networks have been coming from all sides. It must be said that the Chinese application has completely turned the ecosystem, which has been stable for years, upside down, by gaining millions of users in record time. Videos require, YouTube was quickly put in the sights of TikTok.

The two platforms have often been compared, either when they imitate each other or when they surpass each other in certain areas. Still, TikTok has never succeeded in dethroning YouTube, even by crossing the milestone of one billion users. However, everyone agrees that the youngest Internet users all find themselves on the Chinese platform. But is this really the case?

YouTube is still more popular than TikTok, even among young people

Well, not really. In any case, this is what the latest study by the American institute Pew Research Center confirms, which studied the uses of 13-17 year olds in terms of social networks. And contrary to what one might think, YouTube remains the big winner of the race, far ahead of its competitors. According to the study, they are 95% in this age group have already visited YouTubeand 19% use it on a regular basis.

TikTok, for its part, cannot boast of obtaining the same scores. Indeed, even the application remains a good second, it only displays 67% of teenagers who have already tried the platform, and 15% who go there regularly. There is, however, a crucial element to take into account. Unlike YouTube, which has been around for years, TikTok is still a relatively young app. His explosion within the podium is therefore particularly remarkable.

Indeed, the same cannot be said for other social networks. Instagram and Snapchat are still holding up with respectively 62% and 59% occasional userswhile Facebook plummets completely with only 32% occasional users. In 2014, they were 71%. Finally, 18% of teenagers admit that it would be very difficult for them to completely cut themselves off from social networks.
