Google is proud to announce a new feature for YouTube Shorts.

This one is inspired by another successful social network and is simply called “Green Background”.

The Green Screen lands on YouTube Shorts

If you are one of those Internet users who are regularly caught up in short YouTube Shorts videos, you are not alone, since 30 billion of them are viewed every day. This is four times more than a year ago. Also, Google must feed this much appreciated feature, even if it means going to dig a little more from TikTok.

Indeed, now, the latest update allows users on iOS to enjoy a new effect: Green Background (or Green Screen). The principle is simple and allows you to use any YouTube video or YouTube Short as a background for the Short video being created.

Google says: As a reminder, you can also use the green screen with any photo or video from your own gallery. The maximum length is set here at 60 seconds, with the possibility of creating a video directly from a YouTube video, via a dedicated button. It can then be used in “Sound” mode, “Cut” mode or even “Green Screen”.

Any video created using Green Screen mode will be attributed to the original creator’s source video, via a link in the Shorts player, which Google says offers a new way to discover content. Of course, creators can enable an option in YouTube Studio that disables the ability to use their videos as Green Screen. The update is rolling out to iOS and will be coming soon to Android.
