YouTube wants to better orient you to health, with two new features

To facilitate the identification of reliable content on health topics, Youtube has just launched two new features for French users.

It is with a view to combating misinformation and helping its users find reliable information related to the health field more easily that YouTube is launching two new features. Google’s streaming service has forged several hundred partnerships to bring them to life, in particular with AP-HP, AP-HM, CHU Lille, CHU de Besançon or the Medical Research Foundation and the Vaincre association. The most trusted sources of health information will be featured prominently in YouTube search results

YouTube has introduced new information panels below health-related videos, so users can more easily see if the content they’re looking at is from a trusted source. Under a video, the words ” Published by a care structure approved by the Ministry of Solidarity and Health as soon as it appears reliable.

We also note the arrival of dedicated sections, visible as ” health information sources from the YouTube app. Here, it’s about highlighting videos from these same reliable sources, and placing them at the top of the results of the most important queries on health topics, such as cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease , leukemia, epilepsy, stroke and others.

To identify the various sources to include in the two features, YouTube worked with experts from the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) in the United States, but also with the World Health Organization (WHO).

The AP-HP plays the game and will publish new videos every month

Among the categories identified by YouTube are health organizations (hospitals and clinics), educational institutions (medical schools, schools of public health or nursing training institution), public health services and other organizations of the public sector.

The Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) will, for example, produce short popularization videos, lasting three to five minutes, on various medical topics. Several professionals, such as nurses, doctors or radio manipulators, will intervene in these small pellets.

Each theme covered (gynecology, colorectal cancer, psychiatric disorders and poisoning, etc.) will be the subject of several videos of the known phases, thus ranging from screening to rehabilitation follow-up, including the care stage. The AP-HP specifies that it will put two new videos online each month on its YouTube channel.
