YouTube will finally allow content creators to correct certain information present in their videos. Using a new feature, it will be easier to come back to an item discussed in the video.

YouTube has just announced the launch of a feature that should delight videographers of all stripes. In a video posted on June 14, 2022, Google’s video platform explains that a tool called “Corrections” will soon be deployed. It makes it easy to inform viewers of a potential error in the progress of the video.

Until now, the only way for videographers to “correct” a claimed fact in a video was to delete and then repost the video. This means losing its number of views, its potential for virality and, ultimately, the monetization possibilities that come with it. Once a video is online on YouTube, it is actually not really possible to modify it. The patch tool attempts to remedy this problem.

A welcome native feature

As Google’s help page indicates, if a content creator wants to add new elements to their video, it is possible to insert a “Corrections” tag in the description. The latter (which must be accompanied by the timestamp of the moment to be corrected) will then appear in the frame of the video at the desired moment and will make it possible to easily trace the additional information contained in the description.

The solution is obviously not ideal, since not everyone will necessarily click on this correction pellet. However, it is a step in the right direction, since this pop-up is more likely to be seen than a message buried in the description of a video.

In these times of fake news, the addition of context or an opportunity to come back to certain facts easily are always appreciable. Google further states that “If the channel has active warnings or the content is potentially inappropriate for certain viewers, the correction feature is not available.“A way to allow yourself to unpublish videos pinned for misinformation without their authors being able to hide behind a “correction” inserted in the description?
