Yvelines: indicted and imprisoned for rape, he is released after an “error”

A man, indicted and imprisoned for rape, had to be released on Wednesday due to a procedural error.

He is accused of having raped and sexually assaulted a “particularly vulnerable” woman last June because of her mental state. In February, the suspect was placed in pre-trial detention at the Bois-d’Arcy remand center (Yvelines).

The man appealed this decision. But, as a source familiar with the matter explains to AFP, “following an error”, this appeal was not transmitted to the investigative chamber of the Versailles Court of Appeal. The precise details of this error have not been specified. The appeal not having “could not be processed within a useful time”, the suspect was able to obtain a release.

Placed under judicial supervision

The Versailles investigating judge has indeed ordered his placement under judicial control from this Wednesday. However, the man will have to report to a police station once a week and is prohibited from coming into contact with the victim.
