Zac Efron: He's in a remake of a Stephen King novel

Zac Efron is about to make his horror film debut. The actor will appear in the remake of the Stephen King novel "Fire Child".

The times in the role of the singing basketball player are long gone for Zac Efron (32, "The Greatest Showman"). After his breakthrough in the teen film "High School Musical" in 2006, the actor increasingly turned to other genres and will soon try his hand at his first horror film. He will be seen in the remake of the Stephen King novel "Feuerkind", reports the online magazine "Variety".

The novel was first filmed in 1984 with Drew Barrymore (45) in the leading role under the German title "Der Feuerteufel". The horror film is about a girl who develops psychic powers. It can use it to see into the future and start fires. When a secret government agency learns of these skills, she wants to use the girl for experiments. It is not yet known what role Efron will play in the remake of the novel.

The 32-year-old was best known for the Disney musical series "High School Musical" when he was 19 years old. After another musical role in the reboot of the film "Hairspray", Efron was mainly seen in comedies and love movies such as "Happy New Year" or "The Lucky One". Most recently, the actor received critical acclaim for his role in the thriller "Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile," in which he played serial killer Ted Bundy. A few months ago his documentary series "Around the World with Zac Efron" was released on Netflix.
