A Star Wars spin-off refused by Disney and set up by Netflix
After his turbulent time in the DC Comics universe, culminating in the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice Leaguethe director has signed a production contract with the streaming platform that has already resulted in a zombie film, Army of the Deadand a spin-off titled Army of the Thieves.
Zack Snyder is now hard at work on another big project, Rebel Moon, which just started filming this week. On this occasion the director shared some images from the set but also the look of Djimon Hounsou, who will play General Titus in this ambitious space opera. He will be accompanied among others by Charlie Hunnman (Pacific Rim), Bae Doona (Sense8, The Silent Sea) and Ray Fisher (Cyborg in Justice League).
The project was first thought of by Snyder as a spin-off of the saga Star Wars, with a darker and more mature approach to the universe of George Lucas. The director had serious discussions with Disney after the acquisition of Lucasfilm, but the studio preferred to follow another direction, closer, according to its leaders, to the expectations of fans.
Rebel Moon will therefore take us via Netflix to a colony, remote in the depths of the galaxy, which will have to resist the armies of the tyrannical regent Balisarius. Zack Snyder says he spent three years developing the designs for each planet and each people to put together a complete universe.
To discover the final result, however, you will have to be patient and wait at least 2023, the time for the team to finalize filming and post-production.
