Zara Home replaces The Conran Shop in Paris

Zara Home slides into the former The Conran Shop in Paris. The decoration brand owned by Inditex, the world number one in clothing, opened the doors of a store located on rue du Bac, in the 7th arrondissement, on Thursday May 24.

Located at the foot of the Le Bon Marché department store, a subsidiary of LVMH, this premises, owned by the luxury group, was operated for over thirty years by the design brand founded by British designer Terence Conran, until its sudden liquidation in December 2023. Zara Home is moving there for a period of one year, explains a spokesperson, in order to test its concept on the left bank of Paris, in this bourgeois district known for its showrooms of fabric manufacturers. furniture, its designer furniture stores and its decoration boutiques. Then even if it means settling there permanently.

Obviously, former customers of The Conran Shop will not be disoriented. The Spanish brand did not carry out major work to install its departments of household linen, sheets, furniture and crockery in this 1,600 m² complex. However, they might be surprised by the breadth of its offering and its labels; the chain is positioned in a niche of affordable prices, without however being close to those of Ikea, the world number one in furniture known for its low prices.

Development step by step

She sells not only linens and candles, but also sofas and tableware. The distributor cultivates a chic image, avoiding the bright colors and prints typical of entry-level brands. Here everything is white, beige or pastel. To enhance its image, for two years, the brand has called on Belgian designer Vincent Van Duysen for a collection of sofas.

Created in 2003, the brand operates 400 stores and an online sales site in 60 countries. Its turnover is not revealed, specifies a spokesperson for the group whose sales have almost reached 36 billion euros in 2023. But, clearly, in France, its second largest market in the world where Zara has more than 110 stores, the group continues its development at a steady pace.

Zara Home has been present in France since 2007, when a first point of sale was inaugurated, on the right bank of Paris, boulevard de la Madeleine. Seventeen years later, its fleet reaches only 15 addresses, including eight in the Paris region. It is preparing to expand its store operated since 2013 in the Beaugrenelle shopping center in Paris (XVe arrondissement) and to open in Marseille in the Prado Shopping center. Abroad, by the end of the year, Zara Home will set up operations in Antwerp in Belgium and Milan in Italy, two other cities known for their design and furnishing offerings.
