The death of Zara Aleena moves all of England. As she was walking home after a party, the young woman was murdered a few hundred meters from her home.
The evening with friends ended in tragedy for Zara Aleenhas. The 35-year-old law graduate was killed on her way home to Ilford, east London. One of her friends, Louise De’Souza, explained that the young woman preferred to walk home rather than get into a taxi, where she did not feel safe at all. “Unless someone was riding with her or she knew the driver, she wouldn’t take one. I said to her, ‘Don’t walk alone late at night,’ she recalled to the Mirror. She said she was safer because the streetlights were on.” Zara Aleena was returning home from a night out on Sunday July 3 when she was dragged, kicked and stomped on. A post-mortem examination revealed that she had suffered multiple serious injuries.
A 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged with the murder of Zara Aleena, robbery and attempted rape. In a statement, the young woman’s family said their loss was “irreparable” : “She walked. Zara believed that a woman could walk home. Zara, 35, a beloved woman, child, niece, cousin, granddaughter, friend to all, she was a joy to us everyone… She cared for her mother and grandmother. Caring for others came so naturally to her. Zara was friendly, she was everyone’s friend. She was everyone’s daughter, everyone’s niece, everyone’s sister, everyone’s cousin. She was pure in heart.”.
His family wants to “change things”
Her aunt Farah Naz revealed that the family were determined to try to “change something” and convince Britain’s political leaders to act “immediately to prevent violence” that women experience. Hundreds of people gathered for a vigil at the spot where Zara Aleena’s body was found. “She was a joy to us all, her sparkling eyes and jet-black curly hair. Her glorious laugh and soft, smiling voice. Her petite figure embodied a passionate spirit and indomitable energy.”wrote his family. His alleged murderer will appear in a London court in the coming days.
