Ruby: the trick to having your pockets full all the time
Always having your pockets full in Zelda is important! Rubies continue to be the primary currency of the Kingdom of Hyrule. A main currency that allows us to access various things, such as services and materials. The great fairy of Lake Hylia can ask for up to 1000 rupees to make you more elegant. Certain accessories, available in different stores across the kingdom, also cost a small amount. Of course, you will find rare rubies in chests but there is a method to never run out of money. So you might as well get started as soon as possible!
As soon as you have completed the first dungeon, the Ruins of Ussude, head to the Gerudo Desert. At the entrance to the region, you will see species of crows perched on trees. These are Corbos, whose echo you can memorize. When you summon him, he attacks a target from whom he will steal 5 rubies with his first hit.
So take the reflex to summon a Corbos at the start of each fight to recover five rubies from each of your victims. And if you really don’t have any more, look for areas with several monsters that are easy to defeat. A little session of crows and you’re back with plenty of money!
Fragments of power: spend without moderation
Let’s continue talking about resources if you don’t mind. There are fragments of power in Zelda Echoes of Wisdom. Zelda collects some at the end of the voids but also while searching Hyrule. It is at the end of your first dungeon, or even before, that you will recover your first fragments of power. These are actually fragments of power: they improve different characteristics of your swordsman form. You can spend them at Loubery, whom you come across just after, by interacting with his stove. Depending on your progress in the adventure, you will have several choices in which to invest your fragments of power.
Don’t wait before spending them! Start by improving the sword to the maximum level then the energy gauge. This is the sword that you will use the most during your adventure. And there is already a considerable gap between its damage from level 1 to level 2. Upgrading the sword in the swordsman outfit from the start makes life easier.
Smoothies to make without moderation
Smoothies are life! As with the fragments of power, it is after your first dungeon that you will discover the existence of smoothie bars. They are run by mojo plagues and there are 7 of them throughout Hyrule. These smoothie bars allow you to concoct potions with different effects using the resources you collect during your trip. The ingredients, whatever they may be, are only used to prepare these smoothies.
Without spending everything at once, don’t hesitate to have a few smoothies with you. They are very practical and can make a difference. There is something for all situations. However, favor those based on chili spice, armo mango and potentio grape. You can reduce damage taken, recover energy and recover health points.
There is also a small point to clarify regarding smoothies. You will happen to obtain golden eggs in the game. These golden eggs are rare components that multiply the effects of your smoothies. We urge you to use them! They are also used to earn rubies quickly by selling for 150 rubies. But if you use our trick with Corbos, you won’t have to get rid of them for money.
Collect the quest from Igor asap
Like the latest Zelda games, Echoes of Wisdom has several side quests. There are some more interesting than others and sometimes it is completely possible to miss them. During the Echoes of Wisdom test, we completely missed Igor’s quest. He is an automaton engineer, who was presented several times during the game’s trailers. You must bring him echoes and certain objects so that he makes small robots for you, each with particular characteristics. And we only discovered it at the very end of the game!
We encourage you to find it quickly. His quests require looking for very specific echoes. So, we have another objective in mind when we do the main quest. Sometimes we even feel like we’re playing Pokémon! On top of that, Zelda becomes stronger, especially more versatile, with these automatons. This increases the gameplay possibilities and fits into the philosophy promoted by the game: making your own gameplay.
You will find it north of Hyrule Castle. It’s at the top of the path to the left of the Smoothie Plague and the cathedral.
Have no limits
If the Zelda games have been odes to adventure since 1986, you shouldn’t be put off by them either. Don’t force yourself to explore everything at once. All side content remains available, even at the very end of the game. The big nothings you close during the main quest; they too are always accessible. Besides, it’s always good to clarify. The chests in the main dungeons only contain ingredients for smoothies. You won’t find any heart fragments or power fragments there. But still open the two chests next to the one with the key to the great room in Hyrule Castle, you never know.
You shouldn’t force yourself to do all the supporting content at the end either. Some side missions and activities are only unlocked as you progress. Alternate your game sessions between exploration and main quest. Your gaming experience will only be better!
Understanding lock-on and the echo system in combat
Getting started in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom also means understanding the main functionality of the game. Zelda can memorize the echoes of what surrounds her, allowing her to create copies of them for her personal use. There are more than 125 echoes in total, divided between two categories with objects and watches. We have said it several times and we repeat it. Almost all of the echoes of its usefulness. So memorize all the echoes you see on your way!
And there are still some tips for using your echoes well. The first one you need to know is of a practical nature. Each Echo you summon will use its ability in front of you. The flying tile will cross the field in the direction in which you summoned it. Same for the murtula. If you want his help in climbing trees, you must invoke him in front of the trees in question. All echoes work this way.
And it is in combat that we will be able to bend this rule a little.
It is also when you summon your monster echo that it attacks. You should therefore not hesitate to summon an echo on top of the one you have invoked to attack permanently. Some are more effective than others at doing it and that’s good: we’ve put together a little video on this for you so stay tuned.
In this regard, it will be the cheapest monster echoes that will be the most effective. Having an army of monsters helps reduce your opponent’s attention. He no longer knows where to turn. This allows Zelda to stay at a distance and above all safe.
Put yourself in the shoes of the developers
This Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom was presented for the first time in June 2024. It follows Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom which laid the foundations of a gaming experience based on freedom. Echoes of Wisdom takes up this philosophy in a less ambitious way. When it was first presented, players still wanted to know if it was as permissive as Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom. This was a big question during our test of the game and, ultimately, we took the question the other way around. So it’s true: Echoes of Wisdom does not impose a given solution. It is possible to reach the end of the game in different ways. The developers have integrated several game possibilities. And what is interesting is to look for the way of doing things desired by the developers. We are in a constant investigation which allows us to enjoy the game even more.
