The seventh edition of ZEvent was held from September 9 to 11. Despite the controversies, the charity event organized by Zerator once again broke records.

They did it, again. The 57 streamers invited by Zerator and Dach to join them at the Montpellier convention center exploded the donation counters for the benefit of five associations fighting for the defense of the environment.

An edition that has chained the controversies

However, the ZEvent 2022 did not start under the best auspices. The announcement of the association represented during this edition had first triggered a storm on social networks. The choice of the organizing teams had initially turned to the Good Planet foundation, founded by Yann-Arthus Bertrand, but Internet users quickly expressed their dissatisfaction by pointing the finger at the greenwashing organized by the association for banking or energy companies which are also its main patrons.

The controversy has grown so much that the ZEvent 2022 preferred to cut ties with Good Planet and let Internet users choose five associations fighting for the defense of the planet. Sea Shepherd, the League for the Protection of Birds (LPO), WWF, Time for the Planet and Sea Cleaners were the winners in an online vote, although some criticism continued to be leveled at the suitability of participating organisations.

We also noted the absence of some well-known streamers present every year at ZEvent, such as Sardoche or the Joueur du Grenier, selected on these dates. Indeed, and unlike previous years, this Zevent 2022 took place in September and not in October, which caused some planning problems for some big names in French streaming.

A whirlwind departure

The ZEvent 2022 finally started this Thursday, September 8 with a big concert at the Zenith in Montpellier played to sold-out crowds.

Among the artists present to inaugurate this new edition, we can retain the performances of Soprano, Bigflo and Oli, PVNova and Little Big Whale, FrenchFuse and the group Berywam.

The enthusiasm for the ZEvent did not seem to suffer from the controversies. Indeed, 120,000 people were present on the official Twitch channel to follow the event live, already disproving the gossips qualifying this ZEvent 2022 as an announced flop.

Friday, September 9 at 6 p.m. was given the kick-off of the ZEvent 2022. It only took four hours to collect the first million euros for the associations represented, with record speed at stake.

A political recovery that does not pass with some streamers

Ecology has been a hot topic for several years and more topical than ever as the country has just gone through one of the hottest summers in its history and the consequences of global warming are manifesting themselves all over the world.

Like every year, the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron posted a video to thank the streamers participating in ZEvent 2022 and support them in their action.

This public speech was more than badly received by some personalities present on the spot, such as Antoine Daniel, Ponce or Angle Droit, who exploded their anger in the face of this political recovery. The latter have pointed the finger at the inaction of politicians, which leads them according to them to organize this event to compensate for the shortcomings of public action in terms of environmental protection.

A new record in the last hours of the event

If the many streamers have chained video game games, improbable challenges and other karaoke day and night, the event of this edition obviously remains the presence of Alain Chabat. The latter was present for a version of Question for a streamer organized by Etoiles, sprinkled with absurd and quirky questions inspired by the Burger Quiz and written especially for the occasion. More than 200,000 spectators were connected to live this Saturday, September 10 at 8 p.m. to follow the game for more than four hours. The actor-director did not hesitate then to walk from stream to stream to participate in some activities.

It was in the very last hours of ZEvent 2022 that the counters literally went crazy. The generous donors had probably waited until the very last moment to explode the kitty with levels of one million euros reached every hour, even every half hour. Mind-blowing.

In the end, the ZEvent 2022 raised the exact sum of 10,182,126 euros, narrowly beating last year’s record. The sum will be paid to the Fondation de France, which will then be responsible for distributing the donations fairly to the various associations represented.

See you next year for a new ZEvent, in a largely redesigned formula as Zerator has already announced in recent weeks.
