ZEvent: ZeratoR addresses foundation concerns


The ZEvent 2022 has been announced, for the benefit of the GoodPlanet Foundation. After strong criticism on social networks, ZeratoR explains his choice.

Every year since 2016, the ZEvent (or Avengers France during the first edition) brings together the cream of French-speaking streaming for a streaming marathon weekend rich in emotions. The event has acquired enormous popularity over the years, bringing together hundreds of thousands of enthusiastic viewers and beating its own donation record year after year.

After bringing together huge prize pools for Amnesty International, the Pasteur Institute and Action Against Hunger, the 2022 edition of ZEvent will benefit the GoodPlanet Foundation: a French foundation whose mission is to “to place ecology at the heart of consciences and to arouse the desire to act concretely for the earth and its inhabitants”.

Nevertheless, this ZEvent 2022 raises many debates even before the start of the charity marathon. After the stormy reactions of many Internet users to the presentation of the list of guest streamers, it is now the choice of the supported foundation that is called into question.

ZEvent 2022 supports the GoodPlanet Foundation: a controversial choice

Shortly after the announcement of ZEvent 2022, many Internet users shared their concern and even their indignation about the choice of the foundation chosen. On Twitter, @GoodPlanet_ hastened to answer a number of questions in order to clarify the philosophy of the foundation and its actions.

Among the often decried actions of the foundation, we can cite their association with Elementhers in the context of a sale of NFTs for the benefit of the foundation. A technology often criticized for its harmful ecological impact.

We can also mention the collaboration between the TotalEnergies group, whose ecological impact of its activities is the source of numerous criticisms, and the GoodPlanet Foundation. Another point of contention: the media position taken by the founder of GoodPlanet, Yann Arthus-Bertrand, in favor of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

ZeratoR explains the choice of GoodPlanet and announces a pre-ZEvent interview

Following the fiery debates surrounding the announcement of ZEvent 2022 and the choice of the GoodPlanet Foundation as beneficiary, ZeratoR took to Twitter. In a series of tweetsthe streamer and founder of the event reflected on the charity’s selection process.

“I see a lot of questions about ZEVENT but also about the choice of the association (foundation) this year. Know that we ABSOLUTELY wanted to do the biggest ZEVENT on the theme of ecology because it is an important theme that affects us all.

In our approach, we select with several people, specialists, and former beneficiaries, a list of potential associations by doing a lot of research on the past / present / future. We try to group together certain criteria such as the fact that they are transparent, with little drama and a lot of concrete actions, capable of managing a donation of more than 7/8/9M €, recognized as being of public utility and worldwide, with seniority, without illegal actions, and respected in their field, but this list is actually a rather difficult goal to achieve depending on the field.

SO the solution we have chosen is not “In that case, let’s not do anything” but rather “Let’s try to come to terms with the actors”, and make the ZEVENT useful.

Each year, for the ZEVENT, you reveal issues about the association, in a legitimate way. And I love seeing you question the association, put them in the face of contradictions, sometimes even want to look for the little beast, because that’s exactly what you have to do when you offer a kitty with so much money. We can’t always change everything in an association, but you contribute to it with ZEVENT and on OUR side as organizer we can demand traceability of the collection (as is the case every year).

I am very proud that more and more people are learning about the actions and associations of ZEVENT because I find that the subject is often overlooked by donors even though it is important. You ACTIVELY participate in ensuring that these collections are respected and that the event is a success. Carry on.

Now, of course, not everything is rosy, sometimes ecology is diplomacy, sometimes having to discuss with the main leaders, sometimes trying things, sometimes communicating, sometimes making mistakes too. Know that your questions have pushed us to want to act and convince you while confronting the association more and more (like every year during the ZEVENT interview and after the event with traceability).

This is why this year for the first time we will organize an interview BEFORE the event IN ADDITION to the one that will take place during the ZEVENT with speakers. We hope with this gesture, and the communication from @GoodPlanet_, to reassure you a little more about the future use of the funds from this collection. It is our duty as organizers to explain to you what YOUR money is going to be used for and why we think this year’s choice may be the right one for this last big ZEVENT on one of the most important themes of all humanity. For the first time since the creation of ZEvent, Internet users will therefore have the opportunity to learn more about the beneficiary foundation and to ask their questions even before the start of the event.
