Zidane at PSG, the summer soap opera has begun

After the elimination of Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, the days of Mauro Pochettino on the Parisian bench were numbered, we wrote last March. Zinédine Zidane and PSG would be close to an agreement today.

Did you like the first seasons of the PSG soap opera? The arrival of Neymar, his “Se Queda” the following year, the transfer of Messi, the false start of Mbappé? You’ll love “Le Marseillais à Paris”, a soap opera that should keep Paris Saint-Germain supporters in suspense until the end of the summer. Last March, the Parisian Ultra had a headache. Once again, PSG had been eliminated prematurely from the Champions League, by Real Madrid this time in the round of 16, and with a scenario already seen: a conquering Parisian team in the first leg which collapsed in the return, an incredible feverishness at this level of play (and salary) and not much to play for by the end of the season. PSG have regained their throne in Ligue 1, that’s already it, but this additional line on the list of the Capital club’s record has not satisfied many people… The objective has remained unchanged since Qatar took control of the club in 2011: the Big Ears Cup, the Champions League.

In football, the rule is simple: the fuse is the coach. Mauro Pochettino will be replaced this summer. He will not leave a great memory within the club. Of course, the injuries of certain executives have not helped but he will have failed to set up a game background. PSG have been playing badly since the start of the season and especially without any collective enthusiasm. To keep Kylian Mbappé, PSG took out the checkbook. Sporting director disputed, Leonardo is gone, he will be replaced in the coming days by Luis Campos, who has done wonders in terms of recruitment in Lille.

The ultimate dream for QSI

After Messi last summer, God. Zidane of course. This is the ultimate dream for QSI. Convince “Zizou” to train PSG. That’s good: he is free of any commitment. Out of bench since his departure from Real Madrid in May 2021, the best French player of all time (sorry Michel Platini, Editor’s note) arouses much envy. Accustomed to training stars, winner of three Champions Leagues as coach of Merengue, he has the ideal profile to replace Mauro Pochettino. Suddenly, the #hashtag Zidane will be trending on Twitter every three days, at the slightest rumor, at the slightest photo. Does he dream of training Neymar, Mbappé and Messi? Does he prefer to wait until the end of the next World Cup to, why not, replace Didier Deschamps at the head of the France team? As the man is not very talkative, it will be necessary to be satisfied with “source close to”, “in the entourage of the club it is said that”. Which stars will join PSG to evolve under the orders of “Zizou”? And it’ll be like a Netflix series, not wildly awesome but gripping enough to keep our minds busy between bombings in Ukraine. This is the goal of contemporary sport…
