Zubin Mehta in Linz – Fascinating without large conductor gestures

A monumental symphonic listening experience of the highest quality thrilled the Brucknerhaus in Linz. With emotional devotion, the internationally recognized conductor Zubin Mehta led the magnificent Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino through the last symphonic life works of Mahler and Bruckner.

With the romantic Adagio in F sharp major from his incomplete 10th symphony, Gustav Mahler reached the peak of his highly emotional emotional world in a musically composed completeness. At the concert in the Brucknerhaus, Zubin Mehta entered new musical territory in phases through chromatic harmonics and dissonant tones with compact climaxes in the registers of the brass or the highest strings.

Unfinished, but expressive
Bruckner was also unable to complete his ninth and final symphony in D minor. But he continued his searching symphonic path to the end and heightened the expression in the three movements that were preserved. The first movement was solemnly sounded with overwhelming unison by the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and finally reached a quiet reflection. The clarinets introduced the Scherzo harmoniously, the following trio sounded dreamy. The melodious Adagio sounded slow and solemn. Enthusiastic applause for the orchestra and Zubin Metha, who knows how to fascinate without making large conductor gestures!
