Zurich Altstetten – car doused with petrol and set on fire – police arrest man


During a passage from the Altstetten train station in the direction of Migros Neumarkt, a vehicle caught fire on Monday morning. A news scout reported shortly before nine o’clock that eine person have the vehicle doused with a petrol can and then set fire to the flammable liquid. When asked by a passer-by, the man admitted the act and himself on foot away from the crime scene.

According to the Zurich city police, a report was received shortly after 8:30 a.m. that a car was on fire on Bristenstrasse in Zurich-Altstetten. The fire was quickly extinguished by the fire department. Investigations by the deployed police officers revealed that the parked vehicle had previously been set on fire by an unknown man.

The perpetrator then left the location. Investigations subsequently led to the trail of a 36-year-old Swiss man. He was stopped and arrested shortly after 11:30 a.m. in District 11. The course of events and the motive are currently unclear and are being clarified.
