Oracle’s profit almost halved

(Reuters)/tsf. The American software and hardware manufacturer Oracle Corp reports a sharp decline in profits for the third quarter. The surplus fell to $2.32 billion from $5.02 billion in the same period last year, the company said. The reason for the drop in profits is high spending on building data centers around the world and investing and losses from other investments. With the investments, Oracle is primarily focusing on cloud services and, for example, brought customers such as the American video service Zoom on board.

Quarterly sales of $10.51 billion were in line with expectations. Shares of the Austin, Texas-based company are down 6 percent in after-hours trading.
