- GLP politician Isabel Garcia switched to the FDP shortly after the cantonal elections.
- With this, the Climate Alliance loses its slim majority with regard to the new legislature – there will be a stalemate in the Council.
- The financial and economic policy orientation of the GLP “recently no longer sufficiently corresponded to my values in this regard,” explains the politician.
With the change of party, the SVP, FDP, Mitte and EDU will no longer have 89 but 90 members in the new legislature. The so-called climate alliance of SP, GLP, Greens, EPP and AL only gets 90 votes instead of 91.
Bourgeois majority of 90 to 89 votes
In fact, the bourgeois parties are often in the majority when it comes to votes. The reason for this is that the Council President is not allowed to vote, but only has the casting vote in the event of a stalemate.
As the current 1st Vice President, Sylvie Matter (SP, Zurich) is likely to be elected President of the Canton Council at the first session of the new legislature. The climate alliance then also lacks your voice in the votes.
As a result, the bourgeois parties – if there are no absences on either side – would each have a majority of 90 to 89 votes.
