Later on Saturday afternoon, despite the closed fan sector of the Letzigrund stadium, several hundred fans of FC St. Gallen ran from the Hardbrücke train station to the Letzigrund stadium and found themselves in the main stand. As the Zurich city police announced on Sunday, the opposing fans were prevented from meeting after the game, so that the departure of the visiting team’s supporters went off without any problems.

Almost at the same time, tram operation was severely hampered by alleged FCZ fans and a VBZ customer advisor was approached at the Letzigrund VBZ stop. As a result, the VBZ stopped transporting the FCZ fans, the message continues. At around 9.15 p.m., a tram driver on line 2, between the VBZ station Zypressenstrasse and Lochergut, was physically attacked by several people and seriously injured. He had to be taken to the hospital.

The police have started the investigation. So far there have been no arrests. People who can provide information about the incident are asked to report to the Zurich City Police, Tel. 0 444 117 117.

Riots at the station square

As a result of a reported dispute at Bahnhofplatz, the emergency services around Zurich main station identified several dozen alleged football fans of FC Zurich and were able to calm the situation down thanks to the large police presence. In the nearby promenade, several people were attacked a little later by a violent group, some of them dressed in FCZ fan merchandise.

Shortly before midnight, the Zurich city police supported the Zurich canton police and the transport police when a mob of alleged FCZ supporters showed solidarity with the alleged perpetrator when they were arrested after damage to property in the main train station.
