Between Cluedo and escape game

Do you know investigation games? They are based on a more or less complex scenario – a crime, generally – that players study like detectives. They must solve puzzles, find clues, explore the crime scene, question witnesses to finally unmask the culprit. Halfway between the good old Cluedo and the escape game, they are all the rage in the USA, their native land.

Emilie Bernier O’Donnell is a young Bordeaux fan of investigations, detective series and suspense films. Luckily, she just has to go and finish her business studies in the USA. She is looking forward to discovering this category of game which has everything to fascinate her.

She will quickly become disillusioned, unfortunately. The ones she explores have mediocre scenarios, poorly put together files of clues or an overly simplistic plot. With her diploma in hand, she returns to France and decides to build the investigation game that she would have found in the USA. It took him eighteen months to write “Woodlock University: Murder and the Secret Society,” his first investigation.

Woodlock University

Henry Coleman, a 21-year-old high school student with a bright future, was brutally murdered on the campus of Woodlock University. Next to his corpse, a mysterious coded message whose meaning no one can find. Stranger still, the symbols resemble those engraved beneath the statue of founding father Charles Woodlock, erected nearly 150 years ago. But what really happened in Woodlock: a simple murder or is it the visible part of a deeper intrigue?

Clues galore for an investigation that has all the makings of a real one © Detective Box

Obviously, Emilie and her team hit the nail on the head for this first survey which has already sold more than 20,000 copies. It is divided into three episodes, each presented in a box. Each contains a brief, access to the Internet application, various documents as well as evidence collected at the crime scene.

If you fuel well, it will take a team of at least two investigators a little less than 12 hours to solve the case. Of course, we will not reveal anything about the plot and its twists and turns. Just know that it is inspired by real events, that it is about a secret society and that Emilie is a fan of the film Eyes Wide Shut by Stanley Kubrick…

But who is the culprit? ©Detective Box

Building on this success, Emilie’s start-up launched into the production of its second opus “The Tarot Killer” with substantial resources. Available since November 24, it is also inspired by real American events, but this time transposed to France.

The Tarot Killer

Rebecca Dumont is found murdered, her corpse being accompanied by half a tarot card. This strange signature, to say the least, recalls the macabre exploits of the Tarot Killer, a serial killer imprisoned twenty years ago. Players must reopen the investigation and try to solve it before it strikes again…

The Tarot Killer benefits from a much larger budget of 100,000 euros, nonetheless, allowing the hiring of around twenty actors as well as the production of very elaborate multimedia content. Here too, three episodes are proposed and you will have to be rigorous to complete the investigation!

Both investigations are fascinating, full of twists and turns and carried out with impressive attention to detail. They represent a real must for fans of escape games and detective mysteries. An ideal gift to share with family or friends. Hats off, Emilie!
