That’s why she enjoys her new marital happiness twice as much

Television presenter and author Birgit “Biggi” Lechtermann (63) has spent a decade professionally watching people make the right decision – or not. From 1985 to 1995, as the successor to Michael Schanze (76), she moderated the children’s quiz format “1, 2 or 3” and said the famous sentence: “You will see whether you are really standing correctly when the light comes on.” Lechtermann and her partner Ingo Kersting (62) have definitely put themselves in the right place, as she now revealed in an interview with the magazine “Bunte”.

The best proof: On October 7th, the wedding bells rang for the two in the Seychelles. Since then, the 63-year-old hasn’t been able to stop raving about it – even though a wave washed away their wedding cake. She is “still in a rush of emotions” about having found her “pure happiness” in the person of the lecturer for sports, medicine and health. Or, as she puts it: “That there is this wonderful man who keeps telling me: You are my great love.”

Around 17 years ago she experienced the exact opposite emotional world. In 2006, her husband, the journalist Willy Knupp, died shortly after his 70th birthday. “It wasn’t easy to lose a husband who died of cancer with a very small child,” Lechtermann remembers, remembering the difficult time. She now plans to enjoy her happiness “double” with her new partner.

A fateful email

But how did fate bring the two together? It started with a harmless and purely professional email, as Lechtermann reveals. So she was looking for an expert for an interview for her TV show “Lechtermann, Life and Health” and spontaneously wrote to Kersting. A job turned into a date – and finally love: “And the nice thing is that he has also become my best friend. There is unconditional trust between us.”
