10.7 million tax households owe money to the state

The 2022 declaration campaign on 2021 income has delivered its verdict: 10.7 million tax households owe money to the state. Conversely, 13.7 million will be reimbursed.

Are you one of the 10.7 million tax households that owe money to the state or of the 13.7 million waiting for a refund? In a press release published on Monday, August 1, 2022, the Minister of Economy and Finance takes stock of the 2022 tax campaign relating to 2021 income.

11 billion euros for the state

These 13.7 million represent 35% of tax households, which will receive a total of 11.5 billion euros. In front, the regularizations of 10.7 million households (28%) will bring in 22.5 billion euros the state. The Ministry of the Economy recalls that in the event of an amount being paid, this will be deducted directly from the bank account that the household will have communicated, between September and December, in a direct debit (if the amount is less than or equal to 300 euros) or several direct debits (if the amount is greater than 300 euros).

Finally, for the majority of tax households (14.2 million, or 37%), the accounts are just right and they therefore have nothing to do.

For the rest, the Minister for the Economy and Finance notes that nearly 34.5 million tax households (88.6%) declared their 2021 income online or automatically. The number of declarants online continues to grow by 2.7% this year, with 23.9 million declarants (+ 620,000) and 29 million declarations online.
