Tonight, Sunday April 18, LCI will broadcast from 8 p.m. a special program which will retrace the history of the extraordinary investigation after the murder of the Dupont de Ligonnès family in the presence of Bruno de Stabenrath, childhood friend of the suspect, and the best specialists in the case.
Ten years ago, the bodies of the wife and children of Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès were found buried under their house. The man quickly became the number 1 suspect in the investigation. Even today, we do not know what happened to the father of the family. Is he dead or alive? Where is he hiding? Why was it never found? The case is particularly mysterious and remains one of the greatest French police enigmas.
A man not found
Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès has not been found for 10 years. The last image of him was captured by a surveillance camera showing him withdrawing money on April 14, 2011 in Roquebrune-sur-Argens in the Var. After 1,200 reports to the police and numerous means deployed, no one has yet laid hands on the main suspect in the case.
According to Christophe Hondelatte, who presented the show Let the accused enter, man could still be alive. According to him, a normal man would have committed suicide “but since he is obviously not a normal man, then I cannot know “, he declared, specifying that he does not think that Dupont de Ligonnès will be arrested one day because he is potentially one of the most dangerous psychopaths in history. For some, he would have changed his identity and hiding somewhere, benefiting from financial and logistical assistance.
An act of love?
Why did Dupont de Ligonnès kill his family? The reasons remain very vague because the former salesman left no clue and no trace during his flight. Is he still on the loose?
According to Dominique Rizet, police / justice specialist in BFMTV, he would be dead and this murder would be an act of love. “I have the impression that like Jean-Claude Romand, he kills his children for love “, he had declared on the set from C to you. “He doesn’t want these kids to know who their failed father was in everything he did […] Maybe he doesn’t want to make them suffer from what this fall will cause. “, he continued, referring to the ruin of the father before his disappearance.
If at the beginning some thought of a stroke of madness, Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès had started to frequent a shooting range four months before the tragedy, that is to say in December 2010. He was “a diligent student” who was coming “regularly at the stand”. Recently, a photo of the man with two of his sons at the shooting range was revealed. It dates only two weeks before the tragedy. “The photo is freezing because, somewhere, he takes his children where he trains to later go and kill them”, explains the journalist from Paris Match, Rose-Laure Bendavid.
What is the role of his best friend?
Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès’ best friend, Emmanuel Teneur, was initially seen as an ally of the police but he could well be an accomplice of the fugitive. His role is also a mystery, but we know that Teneur benefited from an inheritance of 250,000 euros upon the death of his father. Part of the money was used to buy his Nantes apartment but the rest could have been used by his lifelong friend to help him leave as quickly as possible.
The investigation appears far from being resolved and around ten police officers are still working on this file.
