This is an unusual restaurant. In the very trendy district of the 11th arrondissement of Paris, behind Bastille, it stands out. However, this is not obvious to passers-by until they cross the door. Only its name, 100&1 Signes, inscribed in large tricolor letters on this colorful storefront, can appeal, as well as its logo, three flat hands in blue, red and yellow.
From the reception, we understand that the waitress, Annabelle, all smiles, who expresses herself through gestures, is deaf. The first question is simple to understand: “Are you coming to dine at the restaurant or looking for a take-out meal?”. When ordering, a dialogue is then established with the customers. You can choose simplicity, show your choice of dish on the menu – couscous, brick or gazelle horn – or try to sign, as indicated on the menu of the Moroccan restaurant. Slate in hand, Annabelle confirms the order in writing to avoid any misunderstanding. Either way, the hands and faces come alive…
