1:1 against St. Gallen – Fink secures a draw for GC in the duel of the unsettled – Sport

  • In the 28th round of the Super League, GC and St. Gallen drew 1-1 in Letzigrund.
  • Chadrac Akolo gives the visitors the lead shortly before half-time, Bradley Fink equalizes 10 minutes before the end.
  • Basel and Winterthur also play 1:1.

Bruno Berner tried everything in the second half to prevent his team from suffering their fourth defeat in a row. With Francis Momoh, Dorian Babunski and Bradley Fink, he substituted three strikers. Joker Fink actually scored: in the 80th minute he happily scored to make it 1-1 for GC. St. Gallen defender Jozo Stanic decisively deflected the shot.

The guests ran determinedly again in the final phase, but it was no longer enough for the “Espen” to win. Peter Zeidler’s team also mourned Chadrac Akolo’s great chance to make it 2-0 in the 54th minute. The Congolese could have made himself the match winner with his second goal of the evening, but managed to shoot at GC goalie Justin Hammel from close range.

The ultimately fair draw doesn’t help either team significantly in the current situation. GC is still in danger of being one point ahead of Lausanne-Sport and St. Gallen is in danger of losing touch with Lugano and Zurich in the top regions of the table.

Akolo benefits from Bock in GC defense

It was clear from the game in Letzigrund that the self-confidence of the two teams was not at its best after their recent poor performances. Many mistakes characterized the event right from the start.

It was no surprise that FCSG’s 1-0 lead shortly before half-time also resulted from a mishap: GC defender Kristers Tobers ignored Hammel as he stormed out in an actually harmless situation and put the ball across. There he didn’t find teammate Ayumu Seko, but Akolo. The St. Gallen striker only needed to score his 10th goal of the season.

The lead of the “Espen” had already become apparent in the minutes before. However, Hammel prevented Christian Witzig and Willem Geubbels from scoring with strong saves. And when the GC keeper was beaten, a deflected Witzig cross saved the crossbar for Zurich, who could have taken the lead in the first half through Filipe de Carvalho.

This is how it continues

After the international break, both GC and St. Gallen will not be back in action until Easter Monday. Both play a home game: GC welcomes Lausanne-Sport for a basement duel, St. Gallen faces Lucerne.
