1:1 draw in Lucerne – Grbic dampens GC hopes late – Sport

The GC bulwark in Lucerne remained closed for a long time. The first game without conceding a goal since January 31st, the first away win in Lucerne in over 10 years seemed increasingly likely. But then came the fateful 89th minute. Once the home team broke through on the left, the cross came to Adrian Grbic, who just had to push the ball over the line – 1-1.

Bitter for the Grasshoppers, who deserved the win with a concentrated and committed performance. And almost clawed at him. Rather than being unsettled by the late setback, the Zurich team attacked again. And Pascal Schürpf, of all people, who moved from Lucerne to GC before this season, failed because of the strong reaction of goalie Pascal Loretz.

Seko breaks the spell

Previously, luck had always been on Grasshoppers’ side. For example, when Max Meyer hit the crossbar in the 73rd minute, when the German hit the free-standing ball onto the crossbar. Or when Ayumu Seko scored the opening goal.

After almost an hour, the ball was inadvertently directed into their own penalty area by a Lucerne player. Giotto Morandi missed the ball there, which is why Seko finished free-standing. The Japanese scored his first goal of the season with a well-aimed low shot.

Abrashi with man coverage

Ardon Jashari had little influence on the game. The captain was followed at every turn by his guest counterpart, Amir Abrashi. The two number 6s were rarely found more than a few meters apart on the field. It was only when Abrashi was substituted, after 68 minutes when he was at the end of his strength, that Jashari was given a little more freedom.

This is how it goes

For the Grasshoppers, the air at the bottom of the table is getting thinner with the draw. The lead over bottom team Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy is a comfortable 11 points. However, the gap to the saving bank is already 7 (on Lausanne-Sport) and 8 (on Basel) points.

On Tuesday GC welcomes Yverdon to Letzigrund. With a win, hopes of staying in the league would at least be kept alive. Lucerne will be a guest at Lausanne-Sport a day later.
