130 helpers moved out – fire in Schwechat – fire brigades in large-scale operation

The fire in an empty building between two silos in Schwechat (Bruck ad Leitha district) on the city limits of Vienna triggered a major fire brigade operation on Sunday night. A total of around 130 helpers from Lower Austria and the federal capital moved out with 28 vehicles.

Around 6:30 a.m., the fire was out, reported Alexander Paulus, spokesman for the Schwechat fire brigade. The nearby railway line was closed for several hours. Nobody was injured. Nobody got hurt. On Sunday morning, clean-up work was underway and a fire station was set up. A total of 90 helpers from the surrounding volunteer fire brigades were deployed to put out the fire. They are supported by the Vienna fire brigade with 41 men, eleven vehicles and two large tankers, as a spokesman said. A total of 28 vehicles, including two turntable ladder vehicles and an airport fire engine, were in use. The professional rescue service in Vienna and the Red Cross in Schwechat were also on site. The cause is being determined. Rail traffic was resumed around 7 a.m. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
