The app TikTok will remain the property of ByteDance. Even if this means undergoing a definitive ban in the United States.

Joe Biden signed the legislative package a little less than two days ago which included a ban on TikTok operating on American soil, if ByteDance did not separate from it. This sale must take place within the next nine months, with a deadline that can potentially be extended by an additional three months by the President of the United States. But that could be useless, given the Chinese group’s determination to keep the golden goose that TikTok represents.

Whatever happens, TikTok will remain in the hands of ByteDance

After the adoption of anti-TikTok provisions in the United States, the company should begin a fight in court to prove their unconstitutionality. But even if it were to lose, the parent company ByteDance would rather suffer a ban than sell the application.

This is information provided to us by the press agency Reuters, information which was confirmed to him by four different sources. Because even if the loss of the American market will be a hard blow for TikTok, selling would represent a catastrophe for the Chinese giant.

Algorithms more important than users

Indeed, TikTok accounts would represent a fairly small part of the group’s revenue, while the application’s algorithms, which would be transmitted to others in the event of a sale, are considered fundamental for ByteDance. U.S. users account for about 25% of TikTok’s revenue, and TikTok itself represents only a portion of ByteDance’s revenue, the bulk of whose business is in China through its sister app Douyin.

However, the algorithms that have led to the exceptional success of TikTok are the same on Douyin, and are considered better than those of the group’s competitors in the Middle Kingdom, such as those of Tencent or Xiaohongshu (also known as of RED). Suffice to say that there is almost no chance of seeing TikTok go elsewhere, and reveal the secret of its algorithms. Will TikTok fans in the United States (and there are many, with 170 million users!) soon all have to switch to VPNs?
