1st State League – Bergheim consolidated pole position with willpower

Just one round after the winter break, FC Bergheim stands out from the direct competition in the 1st regional league with a three-point lead at the top of the table.

On Saturday, ASV Salzburg gave up on Markus Teufl’s comeback as head coach. After Friedrich Oberascher’s short-term retirement, the townspeople didn’t seem solid enough in the penultimate game in Pfarrwerfen and didn’t appear superior. In the end they had to admit defeat with a surprisingly clear score of 1:3. Things were different for the Bergheim team, they fought for a 2:1 home win against Altenmarkt. The opponent’s first action put them behind, but the hosts responded shortly afterwards with an equalizer. In the end, there was great celebration because relief from a hard-fought encounter only came in the 85th minute with the goal from Podlipnig, who had just been substituted. “Dominik earned this goal through his hard work and good development,” beamed coach Alexander Pilaj. The lead was even increased because Neumarkt also unexpectedly left Mühlbach with points. An early, controversial exclusion marked the game, which Bachler decided with a brace. The only bitter thing: Mühlbach’s Embacher tore his Achilles tendon early in the game. So far, the fight for the top of the table between these three teams has been very close. After this weekend, for the first time a team was able to stand out from the rest and make a statement. Thomas Schaier1.
